Certified Nursing Assistant

The Certified Nursing Assistant Course is a seven-week course designed to prepare and educate students to receive state certification and obtain employment in a health care setting.
The program will consist of:
- 263 hours of instruction including 165 hours of classroom / lab
- 98 hours of clinical training at a health care facility serving long-term care residents incorporating hands-on nursing skills
The curriculum includes:
- Introduction to CNA and Long Term Care
- Psychosocial Needs and Communication
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Comfort Care and Infection Control
- Body Systems and Diseases
- Vital Signs and Body Mechanics
- Expanded Role of the CNA
- Safety, legal issues, job ethics
- CPR / First Aid through the American Heart Association
Requirements:
• Delaware Resident at least 18 years of age
• Valid Drivers License
• High School Diploma or GED
• Pass a criminal background check, child & adult abuse registry checks, and drug screening
• Pass Reading and Math Exam
• PPD (Tuberculosis Testing)

Can I work as a Certified Nursing Assistant before I am certified?
Answer: Yes, however most employers require that their prospective employees become certified before hiring them.
What is the State Certified Nursing Assistant Exam like?
Answer: The test consists of a written portion, which includes multiple choice questions and five clinical skills, which must be completed in 35 minutes. All skills must be performed successfully in order to pass the clinical portion of the test. All students will take the State Certification test upon completion of the course.
How much does a CNA get paid?
Answer: The average start pay for a CNA is in the range of $9.00 to $13.00 an hour depending on the facility and/or previous work experience.
Additional Course Information
Class time: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday
Clinical days start at 7:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m
Course Duration: 7 Weeks
