Evening Welding Basic & Advanced Training


Overview:

Classes are held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday/Thursday. This program is designed for those looking to start a career in the welding industry or improve their skills. The programs schedule varies based on what course is taken. For details and a print-out click here.

Requirements

The Following are course requirements/prerequisites for acceptance in the Welding Career Lattice Modules:

  • Level One SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW require completion of one or more of the basic training experience prerequisites for enrollment
  • Students that have completed one or more of the Level One modules are eligible for enrollment in any Level One Module
  • Level Two SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW require completion of one or more of the basic training or experience prerequisites as well as completion of the TABE Test and score of 10th grade or higher
  • Students that have completed the basic training or experience prerequisite requirements are eligible to enroll in all Level One Modules, however they are limited to enrollment in module per training cycle
  • Students that have completed the basic training or experience prerequisite requirements and score at a 10th grade or higher level on the TABE Test are eligible to enroll in all Level Two modules, however they are limited to enrollment in module per training cycle
  • Students must complete the Level One or Level Two prerequisite Training Module to enroll in Level Three Training Modules

The Following qualify for training/experience basic enrollment requirements for all Welding Career Lattice Modules:

  • Graduates of the Delaware Skills Center Basic Welding program
  • Graduates of other Basic Welding Programs from other training providers
  • Employees from traditional and non-traditional employers seeking training for specific Welding skill set
  • Employees currently employed seeking career advancement through specialized skills training
  • Students seeking employment that need additional skills training for employment that meet program requirements

Level One

Module 1

72-Hour GMAW Welding:

  • Saftey Review – 5 Hours
  • Equipment Familiarization and Setup – 2.5 Hours
  • Types of Gasses and Filler Metals (Wire) – 2.5 Hours
  • Proper Welding Techniques for GMAW Fillet Welds – 2.5 Hours
  • GMAW Welding Positions for Welding – 2 Hours
  • GMAW Weld Quality and Inspection – 5 Hours
  • GMAW 1F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GMAW 2F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GMAW 3F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GMAW 4F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours

Module 2

72-Hour SMAW Welding:

  • Saftey Review – 5 Hours
  • Equipment Familiarization and Setup – 2.5 Hours
  • Types of Filler Metals (Rods) – 2.5 Hours
  • Proper Welding Techniques for SMAW Fillet Welds – 2.5 Hours
  • SMAW Welding Positions for Fillets Welds – 2.5 Hours
  • SMAW Weld Quality and Inspection -5 Hours
  • Preparation and Setup for SMAW Pipe Welding – 12 Hours
  • SMAW 1G Groove Pipe Welds – 20 Hours
  • SMAW 2G Groove Pipe Welds – 20 Hours

Module 3

72-Hour GTAW Welding:

  • Saftey Review – 5 Hours
  • Equipment Familiarization and Setup – 2.5 Hours
  • Types of Gasses and Filler Metals – 2 Hours
  • Proper Welding Techniques for GTAW Fillet Welds – 2.5 Hours
  • GTAW Welding Positions for Fillets Welds – 2.5 Hours
  • GTAW Weld Quality and Inspection -5 Hours
  • GTAW 1F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GTAW 2F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GTAW 3F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours
  • GTAW 4F Fillet Welds – 12.5 Hours

72-Hour Literacy/Numeracy:

  • Text: Achieving Success in Reading (TABE)

    • Practice GMAW 2G Groove Welds – 30 Hours
    • Practice GMAW 3G Groove Welds – 30 Hours
    • Practice GMAW 4G Groove Welds – 30 Hours

Module 8

72-Hour SMAW Welding:

      • Saftey Review – 4 Hours
      • Review SMAW 1G and 2G Groove Pipe Welds – 15 Hours
      • Proper Welding Techniques for 5G and 6G Groove Pipe Welds – 15 Hours
      • Proper Welding Techniques for SMAW Fillet Welds – 2.5 Hours
      • Practice SMAW 5G Groove Pipe Welds – 40 Hours
      • Practice SMAW 6G Groove Pipe Welds – 70 Hours

Module 9

72-Hour GTAW Welding:

      • Saftey Review – 4 Hours
      • Review 1F, 2F, 3F, and 4F GTAW Fillet Welds – 10 Hours
      • Proper Welding Techniques for GTAW Groove Welds – 5 Hours
      • GTAW Welding Positions for Groove Welds – 5 Hours
      • Practice GTAW 1G Groove Welds – 10 Hours
      • Practice GTAW 2G Groove Welds – 10 Hours
      • Practice GTAW 3G Groove Welds – 10 Hours
