Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing course, approved by the Delaware Board of Nursing, provides an opportunity for the students to successfully study and learn the course requirements to take the licensure examination after graduation.
After passing the licensure examination, students will work full-time in the health care field as a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing bedside care to assigned patients. The program includes both classroom and clinical learning experiences in various nursing facilities in New Castle County.
Requirements:
• U.S. Citizen & Delaware resident at least 20 years of age
• Valid driver’s license & Social Security Card (must be presented at time of application)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to pass reading and math exam
• Letters of reference
• Pass Nursing Entrance Exam
• Pass a criminal background check, child & adult abuse registry checks, and drug screening
• Health care experience preferred
• $100.00 Non-refundable application / testing fee required on date of application. Money Order only.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the program?
Answer: This is a full time one (1) year course. Our course begins in July and ends in June.
Is attendance important?
Answer: Yes, the Delaware Skills Center and the course have mandatory attendance requirements or you will be dismissed from the course.
Can I work full-time while attending the course?
Answer: No, this is not possible since you will be in class daily from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and you will need to have adequate time to study and prepare for the next day.
Where can I work after I graduate and pass the licensure examination?
Answer: You can work in nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, doctor’s offices or hospitals.
Additional Course Information
Class time: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday
Clinical time: 6:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Course Duration: One year - (See Student Handbook for the holiday schedule)
