Welding
This welding course covers basic structural steel welding techniques in the following:
- SMAW - Shielded Metal Arc Welding (stick)
- GMAW - Gas Metal Arc Welding (mig)
- FCAW - Flux Cored Arc Welding

Training also includes: oxy / fuel cutting with both hand and machine torches, air carbon arc gouging. Safe and proper set up and use of welding equipment and tools are also covered.
Successful students will pass hands on arc welding tests in the flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions in the following:
- Fillet welds on carbon steel plate
- Open V-butt joints on carbon steel plate
- GMAW and FCAW on carbon steel plate
The focus of this course is to prepare the successful student with the skills required to secure a job as an entry-level welder or welding apprentice. The complete training cycle is 18 weeks, 7 hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Student Assessment
Evaluation of each student will be based on the following criteria:
• Daily Participation – Attendance, punctuality and attitude.
• Shop Projects – Student completes all shop work in a satisfactory and timely manner.
• Classroom – Students pass all unit and final competency tests.
Requirements:
• Delaware resident at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license 
• High School Diploma or Equivalency preferred
• Ability to pass reading and math exam
• A steady work history is a plus

Answer: $9.00 to $12.00 an hour depending on the employer and your welding ability.

Answer: This depends on the individual. The job developer and instructor make every effort to help the student secure a job.
What class of a welder will I be if I successfully complete this course?
Answer: 2nd or 3rd Class, depending on the individual.
How long will it take to become a 1st Class Welder and certified?
Answer: Three to four years working for a company that does all types of welding. Also, your ability to pass all welding tests and your work habits.
