Our Mission

The Delaware Skills Center is an adult vocational training center, operating as part of the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District, committed to providing skills training to unemployed or underemployed DE residents to create a pathway to a rewarding career.

Our History

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy and Congress enacted the Manpower Training and Development Act to aid workforce development by providing skills training and job opportunities to unemployed and unskilled Americans. This legislation led to the creation of the Delaware Skills Center in 1963 which offers accessible skills training and job placement assistance to Delaware residents.  DSC has trained and provided employment opportunities to  thousands of graduates.

The Delaware Skills Center construction trade courses are taught through hands-on training and classroom instruction. Instructors are NCCER certified and utilize NCCER Core and NCCER Level 1 curriculum allowing graduates a seamless transition into their second year of the State of Delaware Registered Apprenticeship Program.  Our nursing programs are aligned with State requirements for the CNA Prometrics exam and the LPN NCLEX exam.  Our Computer Network program offers students A+ and Network+ certifications.

Our Continued Success is Attributed to:

  • Courses aligned with State and/or Federal licensing requirements
  • Hands on training, clinical experiences/work experiences
  • Classroom, career and clinical areas which simulate the workplace
  • Instructors with extensive knowledge and experience in their field
  • Experienced staff committed to the success of each student
  • Strong, long-standing relationships with local business partners
  • NCCER curriculum paired with employer driven collaboration for in-demand technical skills
  • Dedicated training specialists to assist with the development of soft skills/employability skills, resume building, interview techniques and job placement
