Welding and Fabrication

Overview:
This 18-week (630 hour) training course will prepare students with skills required to secure a job as an entry-level welder.
Successful students will pass hands-on arc welding tests in the flat, vertical, and overhead positions in the following:
- Fillet welds on carbon steel plate (all positions)
- Open V-groove joints on carbon steel plate
- Gas metal arc and fluxed core arc welding on carbon steel plate
This course will provide students with:
- SMAW – shielded metal arc welding
- GMAW – gas metal arc welding
- FCAW – fluxed core arc welding
- Plasma arc cutting
- Carbon arc cutting
- Oxy/fuel cutting with both hand and machine torches
- Oxy/fuel cutting with both hand and machine torches
- Safe and proper setup and the use of welding equipment and tools
* DEMONSTRATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH EACH EXERCISE*
Certificates and Certifications Achieved Upon Course Completion:
- NCCER Core Curriculum
- NCCER Welding Level 1
- 1st Year Apprenticeship Certification
- Advanced Placement into Second Year of the Delaware Apprenticeship Program
- 10 Hour OSHA Certification
Classes are Monday - Friday from 7:30am to 3:00pm.
Cycle Schedule:
Cycle One: August 19, 2024 - January 8, 2025
Cycle Two: January 13, 2025 - May 22, 2025
Background Check and Drug Screening: $155.00 - payment can be made online at www.deskillscenter.org. See page 13 of the Course Guide for tuition fees on non-funded enrollments.
Requirements for Enrollment:
- Delaware Resident at least 18 Years of Age
- Valid Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
- Proof of Selective Service Registration (males only)
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Ability to Pass a Reading and Math Exam
- Pass Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening
- Reliable Transportation
