Commercial Driver's License
Overview:
This 6-week (160 hour) training course will prepare you for a career on the road! Upon course completion students will be able to apply for their Class A CDL license.
Classes are Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm.
40 hours Classroom Instruction
40 hours Range/Pre-trip
80 hours Range/Road

Shifting/operating transmissions
Backing up and docking
Space management
Vehicle communications
Night driving
Extreme driving conditions
Vehicle maintenance
Pre- and post-trip inspections
The USDOL – Employment and Training Division awarded an $800,000 grant to support the creation of the Statewide Vo-Tech Districts Partnership in Transportation & Logistics Training. This grant funds 100% of training costs for qualified applicants enrolling in specially designated evening welding, and CDL courses with the New Castle County Vo-Tech, Polytech, and Sussex Tech adult education divisions. Cycle Schedule:
Cycle One: October 14, 2024 - November 24, 2024
Cycle Two: December 16, 2024 - February 7, 2025
Cycle Three: February 17, 2025 - March 28, 2025
Cycle Four: April 7, 2025 - May 16, 2025
Background Check and Drug Screening: $155.00 - payment can be made online at www.deskillscenter.org. See page 13 of the Course Guide for tuition and fees on non-funded enrollments.
Requirements for Enrollment:
- Delaware Resident at least 21 Years of Age
- Valid Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
- Proof of Selective Service Registration (males only)
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Ability to Pass a Reading and Math Exam
- Pass Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening
- Reliable Transportation

- Good Driving Record
- DMV Permit
- DOT Physical
